5 Common Mistakes People Make With Wine

By Marie Baker Leave a Comment

Wine is the drink of the gods and this age old saying isn’t any wonder. It is such a good drink that can really enhance and compliment the food as well. But there is also real art to serving and drinking wine and sometimes people make really bad mistakes with wine.

Here are five of the most common ones for you to avoid next time you are serving or having wine.Wine

1. Straight To A Glass

There is a saying within the wine circles that wines can experience travel shock. This might sound quite funny but it is actually quite true.

What this travel shock means is that once the wine travels from shop to your home you shouldn’t ever immediately cork the bottle and start drinking.

Always allow your wine to rest before serving, preferably in a carafe for an hour before serving. This can enhance the taste and provide you with a better tasting wine experience. Just letting it rest for a while can cure the mysterious travel shock.

2. Wrong Temperatures

You also need to be really careful with the serving temperature of the wine. It seems to be that people either serve wine way too chilled or too hot, but striking the middle ground with the temperature is really important.

There are a lot of good tips for the right serving temperature at the Wine Doctor website. The website suggests temperatures for serving as well as storing wine. As a general rule the above tip of letting the wine rest will also help you ensure the wine is the right temperature.

3. Consider The Glasses

Although the glass shape isn’t as important when serving wine as it is when serving champagne, you still should pay some attention to getting the right type of glass.

Generally speaking you want the wine to be able to swirl enough. So it is a good idea to get a big enough glass for you to really bring the best out of the taste. There are plenty of good wine glasses out there so get something that suits your taste.

4. Pretend You Know It All

There is so much to know about wines and you won’t be able to become a master of wine by just tasting a few different bottles. You also shouldn’t write off wine as a bad drink if you have just tasted a few wines.

There are so many different regions of wine with all tasting completely different.

Have a look at wine vintage chart information and make sure that you try different types of wines. There is surely something for everyone out there and you always have more to learn about this great drink.

5. Thinking Everything Goes With Everything

No matter how much you like all types of wines it isn’t a good idea to mix and match certain types of wines and foods together. There is some real truth to mixing specific wines with specific types of foods.

It is really important that you look into this matter more because you can really improve your wine and food experience if you do so.
