10 of the most unique beer labels

If you’re an American, you are living in a revolution of beer. That’s not to take anything away from the rest of the world. In fact, most imported beers are highly coveted among beer drinkers in the states.

The United States is going through a much needed phase of increased quality and variety of beer. The big three “Lights” are no longer commonplace at barbecues, family gatherings, and reunions amongst friends.

Craft breweries are sprouting up in almost every state and they all generally garner heavy support from the community. They’ve been sprouting up abroad as well making this one of the best eras for beer.

Beyond the increase in quality and taste is the incredible facelift these beer labels are receiving. The bottles are no longer just containers of delicious libations; they are absolute works of art. The labels for the cans and bottles are stunning and unique. If you need proof, here are ten labels that might just blow your mind.

Loveland Aleworks – Loveland, Colorado

Loveland Aleworks in Colorado has incredibly simple but elegant bottle design. They start with a unique bottle. You’ll often find Loveland’s brews in either a growler or a rounded, stout bottle with no neck.

Their bottles consist of their circular logo with masterful typeface. Perfectly paired fonts are topped with a minimalist design for two mountain peaks.

Half Acre – Chicago, Illinois

Chicago pops up a few times on this list. The Windy City is proud host to a handful of breweries that are home to some of the most creative beer labels around.

Half Acre Beer Company features a slew of different beers, all of them with their own unique labeling. Their 16 ounce cans afford them a lot of labeling real estate and they take full advantage. For some of their best, and quite different work, check out Akari Shogun American Ale and Over Ale.

Bold City Brewery – Jacksonville, Florida

Bold City Brewery has a very playful and colorful palette when it comes to their labeling artwork. Their quirky icon features a beer glass as the “I” in “city. However, the similarities between beer labels ends their. Each type of brew has its own unique label. The cartoony look, colorful schemes, and funky typography are all on display in their brews Killer Whale Cream Ale and Mad Manatee IPA.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse – Loveland, Colorado

The city of Loveland, Colorado makes the list again with Grimm Brothers Brewhouse. They also have labels that feature expertly crafted cartoons, all related to old, famous fables such as Little Red Cap and Snow Drop. You can probably guess the fable based on the brew’s name.

However, one of their best designed labels was for Magic Mirror. Their signature typography was on display but the label also featured shiny silver material that offered the drinker a reflection.

Revolution Brewing – Chicago, Illinois

Chicago, Illinois is back for more love the list with Revolution Brewing. This brewery located in Logan Square features a very “in your face” style of artwork. Unlike other labels, they do have some consistency across their labeling when it comes to the background of their labels and the typeface of the brew’s name.

However, each brew also features a very unique sketch to help define that particular beer. The sketches range from flowers to barrel-hurling old men.

Flying Dog Brewery – Frederick, Maryland

Flying Dog Brewery features labels with questionably legible typeface. If you can read the label of each bottle from across the room, kudos to you. Regardless, the incredibly detailed labels are amongst the unique in the business.

The crazy typography is enhanced through their watercolor type artwork.

Camden Town Brewery – London, England

The first and only entry in this list from across the pond does not disappoint. The Camden Town Brewery in London has an incredibly elegant touch to their labeling.

Bright, solid colored backdrops are paired with great typefacing that is consistent across the brews. The consistent, yet distinct labeling leaves little doubt that you are about to pick up and enjoy a Camden Town brew.

Russell Brewing Co. – British Columbia, Canada

Our friends from the Great White North have created one heck of a label for themselves at Russell Brewing Co.

While all of their labels provide an aesthetically pleasing label, their best has to be the Angry Scotch Ale. The brew makes quite an impression with its bold, orange typeface, silver crossed swords, and crowned lion.

Hopothesis Beer Company – Chicago, Illinois

Hopothesis Beer Company has one of the best names on the list, along with great labeling. They pride themselves on years of experimentation and formulations to bring you incredible brews. They express this through their labels that feature designs with formulas, graphs, and the final frontier.

21st Amendment Brewery – San Francisco, California

California is home to a ton of breweries, however the best labeling has to go to 21st Amendment Brewery in San Francisco.

Their colorful cans actually have similar typography to Revolution Brewing in Chicago. The image designs on 21st Amendment cans are incredibly detailed and actually quite comical.

Go ahead and imagine the Statue of Liberty sitting on the Golden Gate Bridge or George Washington crossing the Delaware in red striped boxer briefs. If you can’t quite imagine those two images, you’re in luck. Those are actual images on 21st Amendment cans.
