Courageous Mother, Wife and Survivor of Mesothelioma

Courageous Mother, Wife and Survivor of Mesothelioma!

Meet Heather Von St. James:

A decade ago Heather was visiting her doctor only to receive a diagnosis that can be fatal and without any treatment, she wouldn’t have lasted 15 months.  Her diagnosis: Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma. This, I imagine is a life altering experience.  I can relate, because my mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 invasive ductal carcinoma/breast cancer and just finished up her Chemo.

With that being said I’m happy to tell some of her story, wife and mother Heather Von St. James and how she has beaten the odds!  Her diagnosis was in 2005, she had only been married for almost 7 years and had a 3 month old daughter when she was diagnosed with cancer.  Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the lungs.

Come to find out Heather Von St. James possibly got Mesothelioma from her Dad’s work jacket! I was shocked when I read that, how could this so easily affect someone?  Her Dad worked doing drywall construction and his work jacket must have carried the asbestos back to their home.  I have heard of Mesothelioma, but I seriously had no idea about Mesothelioma until reading her story, today.

I couldn’t imagine this diagnosis being a fairly new still wife and mom! When I read her story I cried and I smiled, because I can relate to a point.  It’s these times of the year when I’m so grateful to have my friends and family here with me.
