Homemade Stuffed Crust Pizza!
So I decided to make pizza for the family for dinner. Yep, homemade stuffed crust pizza with a butter cheese crust. I would have included garlic, but I was out of it by this time.
This was a great recipe and it was even more delicious later when reheated! Here’s the recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1 c warm water
- 1 tbsp or packet of yeast(I used the stuff in jar)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 1/4 c flour
- 8 Cheese Head Full Fat Mozzarella sticks, roughly
- boiling water to place in oven
Directions:
Start by removing a rack from your oven and set the bowl of water on the bottom of the oven. Then put the 1 cup of water, salt, sugar and yeast in the bowl and give it a whirl and let it sit.
Meanwhile place flour in a dish and grab your oil and make sure it’s liquid, if not set the dish of coconut oil in a bowl of warm water. We need it to be liquid.
Once the yeast has activated about 5-7 minutes roughly then add the oil and give it a whirl then dump in flour and mix till it’s all clumped up.
Dump the clumped up dough onto a mat or whatever surface you’re using. I didn’t need no flour on it, because it’s already still really a floured glob of not yet totally connected dough.
Start by kneading the mess to create one solid dough ball! Keep on kneading about 10 minutes the dough will be soft, but firm and elastic.
My original recipe was a little different, but for this one I rolled the dough with a rolling pin to get a nice rectangle. Once you have it to your desired size, remember we have to roll some cheese sticks up in that edge.
Have a little bowl of water so you can wet a finger every so often.
Lay the cheese sticks around the edge, but slightly inside enough for the dough to cover the sticks. You may need to stretch your dough a little more and that’s okay, do it now.
Once you’ve sized and cut your cheese sticks to fit your shape of pizza roll them up and dip your finger in water to kinda lock the dough together, for most part this held up great! Only a couple little spots you could see where my cheese managed to leak a little.
I then placed used a fork and made little holes all over the inner crust not the part with the cheese in it.
Place back in oven let rest for about 30 minutes with that same bowl of water down in the bottom, it should still be good. The oven light is also helpful in this so be sure to have it on as well.
Once the crust has partially risen go ahead and use your hands to widen it slightly if need while the dough is super soft.
Top with your favorite sauce and bake for 15 minutes at 450 degrees. I also brushed the crust with melted butter and sprinkled parmesan cheese on it.
Remove from oven, as soon as I took it out of the oven the crust was dried up, so I brushed again with butter and sprinkled a teeny bit more parmesan on it. let stand 5 minutes, I transferred mine to a cutting board and cut it up with a pizza cutter!
It was Amazing!
