Homemade Pizza (similar to deep dish pizza hut)

Homemade Pizza (similar to deep dish pizza hut)

This recipe is easier than it may look, I added lots of pictures to show different steps of the process. So you can see how mine comes out all the way!

You will notice our adult pizza is much browner than the kids pizza, we like it like that. So I would only cook for 15 minutes. We cooked our adult pizza for 20 minutes, kids pizza for 15 in a 475 preheated oven.

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 2 Hr
Cook Time: 15 Min

Ingredients

PIZZA CRUST
1 1/3 c warm water
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
1 pkg active dry yeast
2 Tbsp oil
4 c flour
9 oz oil (seperate 6 oz for 13×9 pan, 3oz for round 9in pan)
  butter flavored cooking spray
SAUCE
1 can(s) tomato sauce
1 tsp oregano, dried
1/2 tsp marjoram, dried
1/2 tsp basil, dried
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions

1
Put yeast, sugar salt in a bowl with warm water stir well and let sit for 3 minutes.

2
Add oil (2TBSP), stir well.

3
Add flour stir until clumpy dough.

4
The dough will not be a ball it will be loose clumps of floury dough.

5
Turn the dough out to a flat surface and knead for around 6-8 minutes, dough will feel tough and be a little difficult.

6
Split the dough in to two balls, one ball being 2/3’s of the dough. Roll dough to fit into 13×9 in pan and a 9 inch round pan.

7
Put 6 oz of oil in the 13×9 pan, 3oz of oil in 9 inch round pan. Make sure to coat the whole pan. Place dough in pans and spray edges of dough (around edge of pan) with butter flavored cooking spray cover and let rise for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  You can do less oil, but the texture will not be like the Pizza Hut.  When using all that oil, it almost gives it that fried type of outer layer, but it’s not hard, just a little crisp.

8
While dough is rising make your sauce by adding all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and whisk, let stand for 1 to 2 hours.

9
You can prepare other ingredients during this time, like bacon, onion, mushrooms, black olives, pepperoni’s, mild peppers, etc…

10
The Risen Dough (adult pizza).

11
The Risen Dough (kids pizza).

12
I had to push the dough down to top the pizza’s. Add your sauce, pepperoni, veggies, other meat, then cheese.
Here is the Adult Pizza.

13

Here is the Kids Pizza.

I have to make separate you know kids dont always eat that yummy stuff we enjoy.

14
Bake at 475 for 15 minutes

For someone living alone-I doubt I would spend that much time hand making pizza–In NY there is a pizza place on every other corner and their pizza is good and I can buy only 1 or 2 slices!

Thank you for the step-by-step instructions. I am going to try this recipe tomorrow. It looks like a fun one to do as a family. Is the temperature right? 475 degrees? That’s much hotter than I typically bake our pizza.
