If there’s one night of the year that you should really go to town to wow your guests with some scrumptious, unique edible delights then it has to be New Year’s eve. A little thought and imagination into what you serve your guests can make a huge impact and get the celebrations off with a bang! Here are some menu ideas worth considering for your New Year’s eve party.
Firework biscuits
A New Year’s eve party wouldn’t be complete without some fireworks. But, add some edibles into the mix by making firework biscuits – they’ll especially go down well with the kids! For the basic biscuit mixture, you’ll need plain flour, sugar, margarine or butter, an egg and baking powder. You might want to add a dash of cinnamon for a festive flavour. The ingredients need to be mixed and rolled, and then cut using biscuit cutters. After being baked in the oven, you can then add different coloured icing to the biscuits to make it look like fireworks.
Champagne sorbet
New Year’s eve wouldn’t be the same without a bit of fizz, so serve up a sumptuous champagne sorbet to your guests. You’ll need to mix together some champagne, sugar, corn syrup, lemon zest and fresh grapefruit juice, and then put it in the freezer, stirring at intervals. Serve the sorbet in champagne flutes.
Crab and avocado toast canapes
Finger foods and canapes are the way forward for New Year’s eve entertaining, because it allows guests to enjoy tiny morsels of different flavours, without being overwhelmed by large portions. Crab and avocado sesame toast canapes are quick and simple to make, yet are quite decadent, and give the impression you’ve pushed the boat out this New Year’s eve. You’ll need guacamole, crostini, crabmeat, sesame seeds and lime wedges to serve.
Fig and prosciutto mini pizzas
Mini pizzas make the ideal finger food, but forget boring toppings and opt for something that shows you have a creative streak in the kitchen. Add chunks of fig to slices of prosciutto on top of either homemade or shop-bought, cooked mini pizza bases. It’s easy to make your own bases though, and just involves mixing flour, yeast, water and a dash of olive oil together. The mixture then needs rolling out and cut into small shapes and heated in the oven for a few minutes. Sprinkle Parmesan over the pizzas and sprigs of rocket. Drizzle balsamic vinegar and then serve.
Champagne carrots
Serve a vegetable dish with a difference for your celebration party. It’s simple and easy to make, but tastes quite special. You’ll need to saute some sliced carrots in a pan. Add a few spoons of chicken stock and champagne, a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of salt. Simmer and cook over a low heat until the carrots are cooked but still have a bite. Sprinkle some dill over the carrots. These taste great on their own, or work well with a rich and flavoursome dip.
