Kids and Gun Safety!
First thing we taught our son is that if used improperly it can and will kill you or someone else. To never point a gun at anyone and to never touch one if he comes across one. He doesn’t like the loud sounds it makes and the fact that it ejects the shells. He will grow out of that though, he is very capable of using a weapon if he needed to, but he won’t touch it otherwise.
Kids are taught to stop, don’t touch, leave area and to tell an adult. This is a must if the gun isn’t your own family’s gun and you’re out somewhere. At home however they aren’t just laying around, so if the need to use one arises I want him to know how to use it. There is no harm in having a well educated child when it comes down to guns, in fact I think it’s smart! Our son has seen what an AR-15, Shotgun, Glock and other handguns can do to pumpkins, gallon jugs and more. That alone is a lesson to see just how bad a weapon can rip something apart. That shows them the gun is dangerous and it’s off limits to them. Now there are some kids who are just plain curious and would touch one. I personally do not think our son ever would, but we won’t give him the chance to prove us wrong though.
I suggest a gun safe when you have any guns or an out of reach rack. I think guns are beneficial in our survival in some cases and private homes should always have the right to bare arms and protect their fortress from any invasion of a burglar or intruder seeking to do harm to us or anyone in our home.
He does however love the BB Gun and is a Great Aim!
This is the shot gun shells that we stood up on the ground and let Leo shoot too! Boom first there’s two and then there’s one! Like Magic!
Then there is the avid gun builder and gun lover my husband. We all own a gun every last one of us here, yep including our son! Here’s a photo of the hubby in bed with his Dream! LOL
Yes he sleeps with it next to him! Takes it with him when he leaves, I swear that gun gets more attention than I have in our 20 year relationship! Oh well whatever makes him happy right!
Some people are against guns, some people think kids shouldn’t have anything to do with them. Fact is that for years upon years boys have hunted with dad and enjoyed the kill and bringing home dinner with their dad’s! It’s not something new, it’s just something that people who aren’t in their right mind have made seem like something bad! Guns do not kill! People do! That’s a fact!
What’s your thoughts on this topic of making sure kids are well trained and versed in use of guns or safety of a weapon?

We do practice shooting every summer with out kids. It is important to teach them how to properly and safely use it.

My husband has his own gun cabinet and every time I see those guns, it scares me. LOL! But, guns are important for our own protection.
