What Do You Know About Cows?
I live in Southern Alabama and we have lots of cows everywhere. Specifically several across the road from my sisters house. The farm is a huge L shape that I can see anyways, there are lots of woods that I cannot see how far or what shape they take or how much is the owners. So the cleared area is behind all the houses on a short road, it then turns like a corner making the shape of an L. So these cows have lots of room to run and play then whatever comes next. Not sure what he does with them, there are always cows there and honestly I don’t remember what they look like. This time though I took some video and I was a little confused because two of these cows I’m positive were pregnant, but being ignorant about cows I thought, No Way! They have horns.
Well I always like to educate myself a little bit about stuff I am wondering, I noticed the cows also had udders. I was for sure the one was a bull though, lol but I do believe I am wrong on that. After reading I realized there are actually breeds of cows that do not have horns on both male or female. Then there are breeds where the males and females can both have them or not. Pretty crazy, it’s because we are used to hearing about deers, if it has antlers it’s a male, if not it’s a doe. It’s not the same and doesn’t work like that at all!
You see horns are found on animals from the family Bovidae.
Something else I learned is that a heifer is a cow that hasn’t given birth yet, and a cow who has given birth is just a cow. So if you hear someone refer to a cow as a heifer then you know it’s because she’s not been a mama yet.
These gals both look pregnant, have udders and horns! Craziness!
Bet ya didn’t know that there are like 900 different breeds of cattle in the world!
I”ll be doing another post really soon with videos of these cows running around and coming close to the fence. I was a little nervous by their size, because they are freaking huge!
